July has only just kicked it, but it’s already been a very busy summer at EventMAP. Our latest news is that we’ve just been engaged by the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford to deploy Event, our curriculum, event planning and scheduling package, and Portal, our room booking and schedule viewing software.
Rather than singing our own praises, we asked Nathan Jones, the Department’s Digital Development and Web Officer, to explain why they’d decided on an EventMAP solution:
The presentation given about the EventMAP system to the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford was both informative and inspiring. This, combined with follow-up contact with company representatives, enabled us to make an informed decision about choosing EventMAP as the room booking and timetabling solution which appears to most closely meet the needs of our students, staff, and academics. By using EventMAP we are aiming to offer an enhanced service to all stakeholder groups to allow users to access specially targeted information, including personalised timetables/schedules.
The EventMAP system will also assist the department in improving space management by offering the facility to book ad hoc teaching and meeting spaces across multiple sites. An attractive enhancement is the ability to book resources for physical spaces, allowing for improved asset management.
As a general engineering department with specialists across many areas of engineering we are also hoping that EventMAP will allow us to manage existing complicated rules and constraints, while keeping up with new complex rules imposed by a rapidly expanding department.
As a part of a regular review process of our support systems, a market research exercise was undertaken to ascertain whether a more suitable timetabling and room booking system was available. Two favoured solutions were identified – EventMAP, and a market-leading timetabling and room booking system. Another positive outcome from the market review process was the opportunity to look at our internal processes and we identified that, with the assistance of EventMAP, there is an additional opportunity to streamline our administrative systems.
