The need to accommodate scheduling facilities for training institutions, specialist institutions and individual departments within universities that run on a different number of weeks, have non-repeating events over weeks, require the ability to timetable across academic years, or manage the inclusion of specialist rotations with varying time durations within a schedule has become increasingly common. Traditional scheduling packages often fail to, or can only partially, accommodate these specialist circumstances – requiring timetablers to work in multiple databases simultaneously, create elaborate work-arounds, or in some cases, abandon the use of scheduling software all together to create clash free timetables.
We have been approached by a number of clients over the years who have felt the impact of these limitations and have struggled to find an adequate solution to get the quality of timetable they require. EVENT has been designed to work in week ranges, rather than fixed 52 week periods and also has the ability to attach various groups to different events. EVENT’s grouping structure means that different groups of students can be attached to a particular event and can be associated with sub-sets of weeks within the span of an event.
