As part of this year’s MISTA conference in Kuala Lumpur, we’re delighted to announce a workshop session that will be hosted by Dr. Barry McCollum of EventMAP (a long-standing co-chair of MISTA), and Dr. Paul McMullan, EventMAP’s Chief Technical Officer. In the workshop, entitled The future will be optimised: from research in optimisation to successful commercialisation at EventMAP, Dr. McCollum and Dr. McMullan will be looking at EventMAP’s successful journey that’s taken their research work in optimisation algorithms from research to full commercialisation.
The workshop will cover the growth of optimisation software for timetabling and planning within education into ‘the cloud’ and EventMAP’s subsequent expansion into sectors such as healthcare, defence and policing, looking at bespoke, algorithm-level approaches to new sectors and generalised approaches that span across sectors.
The EventMAP team will also be giving a sneak preview of some of their latest cloud-based tools to demonstrate how the optimisation algorithms have been used within the products to create a highly effective environment for planning, timetabling and space management.
MISTA are offering special rates, which are significantly lower than the standard rate, to students/staff at Malaysian universities to attend the MISTA workshops (as low as RM 450). This is being done to help the development of Malaysia’s research in line with the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education’s 2015-2025 blueprint, in the hope that the rates offered will enable more people to attend.
As part of the 2017 conference, a set of eight tutorials will be hosted on Tuesday 5th December, drawing on the expertise that the MISTA conference attracts. Tutorials in the Getting Published stream are 1.5 hours and will feature the following topics:
Tutorials in the Applications stream are also 1.5 hours and will feature the following topics:
Attendees are welcome to attend any of the above tutorials if registering for the workshop day. Further details are available at: http://schedulingconference.org/
