A warm welcome to Ulster University (UU) who have selected Optime Timetabler to manage their Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) assessment centre.
The NMC introduced a Test of Competence for internationally registered nurses and midwives in October 2014. As part of this, NMC have 5 approved Competence Test Centres, including Ulster University, Northern Ireland.
The Ulster University provides part two of the NMC’s Test of Competence for nurses and midwives seeking registration to work in the UK with a designated Competence Test Centre (CTC) at Magee Campus based in Derry/Londonderry. The University approached EventMAP to review their needs for a more customer oriented, online booking system which should also be able to manage and monitor candidate processes, from enquiry, through confirmation and enrolment on to the appropriate assessments. EventMAP’s Timetabler offered the closest match to the requirement, and following review and proof of concept, EventMAP were awarded the contract to work with the UU CTC team, to implement an appropriate booking system, and means of reporting and analysis.
The project illustrates the flexibility and versatility offered by the Optime Scheduling Suite. This is not a typical Optime Timetabler implementation as the software will be used more so as a system for the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) candidates to book slots for the NMC Test of Competence and attend in person at the University's Magee campus to be assessed on a number of clinical scenarios and skills relating to their field of practice. Where the typical use case of the system is for course planning, management and scheduling, this project centres more around the ability to book tests/exams as a candidate, validate candidates that are eligible for tests (back-office administration), and accept payment. A good deal of functionality has been implemented in Timetabler supporting this type of approach with our partner SURPASS, and with the UU project we hope to extend this further adding more customisation and flexibility over the booking system functionality.
