Iain Cleary

With over 15 years of experience in higher education timetabling, Iain brings a wealth of knowledge in designing, implementing, and evolving complex scheduling systems. Having led in the transformation from manual, paper-based timetables to fully digital, individualised schedules, Iain has been at the forefront of driving efficiency, accuracy, and student-focused innovation.

Known for a pragmatic and solutions-oriented approach, Iain has developed in-house tools and processes to bridge data across multiple systems; leveraging expertise as a Database Administrator (DBA), Database Developer (DBD), and .NET Developer. His deep understanding of both the technical and operational sides of timetabling has enabled him to solve a wide range of real-world challenges, from ad hoc timetable requests to large-scale data and reporting issues.

Beyond systems development, Iain plays an active role in staff training; supporting new timetabling colleagues and providing cross-departmental guidance to improve institutional understanding of scheduling complexities.

Iain is currently contributing to the continued evolution of timetabling practices through the migration to a new scheduling environment, working with EventMAP and their Optime solutions to deliver the next generation of timetabling infrastructure.
